Who we are

We started in Boulder in 1997. Small operation, personal service, and the personal service part never changed.

Today we handle local, long-distance, and commercial moves across Colorado and the country. And we still do plenty of the smaller jobs too.

Our Broomfield warehouse has been our base for 20 years. It's where we keep our fleet, our 500 storage vaults, and the forklift-loaded containerized system that most movers won't invest in.

In 2026 we returned to downtown Boulder with an office at 1136 Pearl Street, Suite 200C, Boulder, CO 80304, a return to our 1997 home base.

Licensed carrier, not a broker

PUC HHG-00019. USDOT 1253812.

That's the first thing worth checking when you're comparing movers. It tells you whether the people at your door work for the company or got handed the job by a middleman. Ours work for us.

A broker takes a fee and passes your move to whoever accepts it, and you often don't know who's showing up until that morning.

We own our trucks. We employ our crews. We're the ones you call if anything needs to be made right.

When the top real estate professionals in this region move themselves or their clients, they call us. That includes agents at RE/MAX of Boulder, 8Z Realty, Porch Light, Compass, and Berkshire Hathaway.

They watch movers work every week, and they put their own reputation on the line with every referral. That kind of endorsement isn't bought. It's earned one careful move at a time.

Why families trust us with everything they own

If you've already done your research, you're probably down to a short list and need the last few reasons to decide. Here's what we'd tell you on the phone.

01

Our claims rate has been under 1% for most of our history
The industry standard runs 5 to 6 percent. We don't do cheap, we do right. Full value protection is the default on every job we quote, so customers opt down if they want less coverage, not up if they want more. That's the opposite of how most movers write it.

02

Our crews average 5.5 years, with senior crew leaders at 10, 15, and 20 years
We also have a warehouse and dispatch manager with us since 2013 and a mechanic of 10 years. The industry average, national franchises included, is three to six months. Career movers who've done the same job hundreds of times make fewer mistakes. That's not an opinion. It's what nearly three decades of sub-1% claims data shows.

03

Every crew member is background-checked and workers-comp covered
We run a core of full-time employees plus long-tenured, vetted professional movers — most with five to eight years with us — and never day labor found that morning. Most movers say they run background checks. When we run ours, we reject about three out of four applicants. That's the difference between saying it and meaning it — and it's why we won't lower the standard. What we find when we check applicants from other companies is criminal records, unresolved legal issues, or workers who aren't authorized to work in the US. So the standard stays where it is. It isn't negotiable.

What we do

Every service we offer is delivered by our own people.
Local moves

Local moves

We work Boulder County, North Metro Denver, and the broader Front Range with employee crews and full house protection on every job. Before we carry a single item, we cover floors, doorways, stairwells, railings, and carpets. The most common local move runs two to three trucks.
Long-distance moves

Long-distance moves

We run three tiers as a Bekins Van Lines agent, which gives your long move the reach and reliability of a national network with the same local crew accountability you'd get across town.

Dedicated Van: your belongings on an American Moving truck, direct, with the same crew the whole way

Express Van: an American Moving truck running inside the Bekins fleet
Consolidated Shared Van: standard Bekins service at the lowest cost of the three

All three are backed by a licensed carrier, not a broker. See our long-distance moving options for destinations nationwide.
Storage

Storage

We own 500 vaults (350 currently in use) plus 10 storage trailers, in a climate-controlled North Metro warehouse. We bring containers to your job site in enclosed trucks, load them once with inventoried and blanket-wrapped belongings, seal them, and offload by forklift. In 95% of storage situations, those containers aren't opened again until we deliver. More on our containerized vault storage.
Office and commercial relocations, lab and equipment moves, and senior moves

Everything Else

Office and commercial relocations, lab and equipment moves, and senior moves as a Bekins senior-certified agent since 2018. Plus the specialty work most movers avoid. We've hoisted thousands of pianos, moved hundreds of safes and a 300-gallon aquarium (a two-mover job), transported original, signed Picassos and full fine art collections.

The founder's story

Gabriel Kierson started American Moving in Boulder in 1997, after roughly ten years in natural food production, wholesaling, retail, delivery, and farming. A decade in logistics made moving a natural next step.

His family history runs in two directions. On his mother's side, men served in every American war going back to the Revolution. On his father's side, family emigrated from Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution to start over and live free.

Both sides were entrepreneurs, and Gabriel says he thinks about that often in this work. He grew up helping his grandfather move family — his grandfather's three daughters, his mother among them — with his cousin, and he grew up in the antique trade, buying at auction and selling at flea markets, learning early what people's belongings are really worth.
Gabriel Kierson
He was a seven-year Boy Scout raised by a single mother, and he says that combination taught him to make it right every single time. He has two children and two granddaughters, and is learning to operate the family farm in Maryland while staying closely involved in the business.
A move is exactly that. People taking control of their own future, building a new home, deciding their next chapter. Helping families do that is not a small thing to me." — Gabriel Kierson

We've been debt-free for 10 years, and we own our fleet and all 500 vault containers outright. A company operating in Boulder County since 1997, supporting 20 local families, carrying no debt, isn't the kind of outfit that disappears with your deposit.
